‘The View’: Whoopi Apologizes After Telling JD Vance to ‘Shut Up’ About Taylor Swift
Whoopi Goldberg offered a quick apology to vice presidential candidate JD Vance on Thursday morning after bluntly telling him to “shut up.” However, she didn’t backtrack on the sentiment behind her statement.
The moment unfolded during a discussion on The View about Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. The hosts noted Swift’s impact, with more than 300,000 people visiting vote.gov within 24 hours of her post. Despite this, Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, downplayed Swift’s potential influence on the election.
Vance told Fox News that Swift “is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans,” adding that her billionaire status shields her from the concerns of middle-class voters.
In response, Whoopi snapped, “You don’t know what affects her, you don’t know about her money. What are you talking about? Shut up, JD.” She quickly corrected herself, saying, “I’m sorry, that was very rude — Stop talking, JD.”
After a commercial break, Whoopi clarified that while the wording was wrong, her overall point stood.
“I apologized because I hate when pundits tell me to shut up,” Whoopi explained. “It’s not a nice thing to say. So I do take it back, but the implication is, ‘hushhh.’”
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
