Lady Gaga Addresses College Facebook Group That Claimed She’d ‘Never Be Famous’: You ‘Gotta Keep Going’ When ‘People Doubt You’

Lady Gaga reflected on her early struggles Wednesday, acknowledging a now-deleted Facebook group created by her former New York University classmates titled, “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous.” For years, screenshots of the group, referencing Gaga by her birth name, have circulated online among her fanbase.

Gaga responded to the group’s existence by commenting on a TikTok about it. The post featured a comparison between the 12-member Facebook group and a list of her numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, 13 Grammy Awards, 10 Billboard Music Awards, and 18 MTV Music Video Awards.

Gaga attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts before leaving in 2005 to pursue her music career. She began performing in New York clubs and developing her stage persona, eventually releasing her debut album, The Fame.

Most recently, Gaga, alongside Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips, premiered their comic book sequel Joker: Folie à Deux at the Venice Film Festival, receiving a lengthy standing ovation. The film is set to hit theaters on October 4.

“Todd took a very big swing with this whole concept and with the script,” Gaga told Variety in an interview, describing the film as a mix of music, drama, comedy, and courtroom scenes. She praised Phillips for his creativity and willingness to push boundaries.
